About Us

As Tasmania’s publicly owned training provider, TasTAFE is a vital contributor to the prosperity of the state’s economy through supporting jobs and employment and the economic resilience of our businesses and industry. With a focus on practical, real-life learning, we work hard to ensure the training our learners receive is industry relevant and we provide real industry skills that are highly valued by employers.

TasTAFE aspires to be a place of innovation, creating new ways of training, finding solutions, delivering differently and increasing access for all.

The Role

The Student Support Manager works closely with the Senior Manager, Student Services to lead a contemporary, high‑quality student support service that strengthens wellbeing, participation and progression for TasTAFE learners.

You will bring your experience across counselling, psychology, social work or a similar field to oversee a multidisciplinary Student Support team, manage resources, and support the development of policy and practice that guide our teachers to deliver best practice support for our students.

A key focus of the role is creating an inclusive environment by identifying and addressing barriers to participation, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and driving continuous improvement aligned to TasTAFE’s values and strategic priorities.

You will also ensure compliance with WHS obligations, champion positive culture, and contribute to the development of consistent service standards across the state.

What You Will Bring

  • Strong experience in vocational education and a proven commitment to quality student outcomes.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead and support student support professionals, with sensitivity to complex student needs.
  • Experience working with diverse learner groups, including students from low socio‑economic, Indigenous, international, regional and disability backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to manage people, resources and change in a complex environment.
  • High‑level communication and influencing skills.
  • Demonstrated strength in collaborative, consultative decision-making and policy development.
  • Knowledge of contemporary management practices, sustainable business approaches, organisational wellbeing and WHS compliance.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Registration to work with vulnerable people in Tasmania.
  • A proven record of management experience, particularly in a large, complex education organisation.
  • A degree or higher in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or similar.

Desirable requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in educational leadership or business management.
  • Experience in a post-year 10 educational environment.

This is a full-time, permanent position that has a statewide remit, with a primary base at Hobart or Alanvale.
