The Role

As a Student Counsellor you will play a vital role in supporting prospective and current students to achieve their educational and vocational goals. You will provide high-quality personal, career and crisis counselling services that minimise the impact of psychological, emotional or social factors on learning outcomes.

Working within a supportive and experienced team but with a high degree of autonomy, you will partner closely with teachers and student support teams to advocate for student wellbeing, resolve conflict and enhance positive learning experiences. You will also contribute insights on emerging student issues and trends to inform service improvement across the organisation.

This role is a 6-month fixed-term contract offered on a part-time basis (44.1 hours per fortnight/ three days per week to be negotiated).

What you will bring

  • Proven capability in counselling, career guidance, mediation and student advocacy
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a sensitive and professional approach
  • Demonstrated experience supporting individuals experiencing psychological or emotional distress
  • Sound judgement, resilience and the ability to manage competing priorities impartially
  • Well-developed skills in problem-solving, negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Experience in vocational education and training environments (desirable)
  • A relevant qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or a related discipline (desirable)

A current Working with Vulnerable People registration is required, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
