The Role

Based at our Campbell St Campus, this position delivers the Certificate I in Work Education—an employability skills program for  learners with intellectual and/or cognitive disabilities.

In this role, you will create and deliver learning experiences that focus on building work readiness, confidence, and independence in a supportive, tailored environment. The successful candidate will use their expertise in special education to empower students with the knowledge and tools to pursue meaningful pathways beyond the classroom.

On any given day, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting learners on campus and through workplace engagement
  • Designing, coordinating, and delivering training and assessment materials aligned with industry needs
  • Advising students, parents, and employers on training pathways and career development opportunities

What You Will Bring

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching students with intellectual and/or cognitive disabilities.
  • Formal qualifications in Special Education, such as:
    • Bachelor of Education with a Special Education (Education for students with intellectual and cognitive disabilities) specialisation
    • Graduate Diploma or Master’s degree in Special Education

OR

  • Evidence of relevant expertise through:
    • Ongoing professional development in special education
    • Active engagement with disability networks
    • Documented teaching experience or peer/third-party reviews

 

  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40122, TAE40116, or TAE40110) or a willingness to work toward it (TasTAFE can support you in obtaining this, free of charge)

OR

  • A secondary teaching qualification and one of the following credentials:
    • TAESS00011 Assessor Skill Set, or
    • TAESS00019 Assessor Skill Set or its successor, or
    • TAESS00024 VET Delivered to School Students Teacher Enhancement Skill Set or its successor

OR

  • A diploma or higher-level qualification in adult education or vocational education and training.

A current Working with Vulnerable People registration is required, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
