The Role

Working from our North-West Campuses, the Aboriginal Support Officer will help to promote training opportunities to attract and increase the enrolment of Aboriginal* people into TasTAFE and provide support to students throughout their studies. Whilst this is a full time permanent opportunity, we are also open to appointing two part time candidates (one based at each campus – Burnie & Devonport).

Aboriginality is a genuine requirement under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas)

This is an Aboriginal* Identified position which can only be filled by Aboriginal people.

On any given day, your duties will include:

  • Advocate for a supportive and inclusive environment for Aboriginal students
  • Deliver Aboriginal Cross Cultural Awareness training to staff and students
  • Assist Aboriginal students in completing award and scholarship applications
  • Provide advice on Aboriginal resources, protocols and cultural matters

What will you bring

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal societies and cultures, particularly Tasmanian.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build relationships with students
  • Leadership in guiding and mentoring in a collaborative and supportive learning environment.
  • Proven ability to manage own performance and to exercise initiative, discretion, confidentiality.
  • Ability to plan and administer a range of programs and services for the participation of Aboriginal people in VET

A current Working with Vulnerable People registration, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.
