The Role

Permanent, full time working up to 76 hours per fortnight (1.00 FTE)

Undertake teaching and assessment duties in a variety of contexts and in line with relevant standards and compliance requirements. The occupant is required to regularly monitor and evaluate practice to maintain a focus on continuous improvement.

An existing TasTAFE employee employed under a copied state instrument, or an employee who has been employed at TasTAFE in the past three months, if successful, would be appointed at the relevant classification and salary in the copied state instrument.

About You

This is a specialised role for an individual with demonstrable expertise in teaching in the field of special education. 

This expertise can be demonstrated by holding a relevant formal qualification, including:

  • Bachelor of Education with a Special Education specialisation area
  • Graduate Diploma in Special Education

Or

  • A Masters degree with a Special Education specialisation area, including:
    • Master of Special Education
    • Master of Education (Special Education needs)

Alternatively, our ideal applicant may demonstrate evidence of relevant knowledge of theories, methods and practices in teaching learners with a range of permanent cognitive and/or intellectual disabilities through a combination of activities such as:

- ongoing relevant professional development

- engagement with disability teacher networks

- peer review of teaching / third party report detailing performance

- documented relevant teaching experience

Requirements

Evidence of meeting the following essential requirements for the role will need to be provided with your application and/or prior to starting:

  • Current Registration to work with vulnerable people in Tasmania.
  • The following requirements as detailed in the Australian Skills Quality Authority Standards For Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 are essential:

TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or its successor.

OR

TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

AND one of the following:

  •  TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills or its successor, or
  •  TAELLN401A Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills
     AND one of the following:
  •       1.  TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools or its successor, or

          2.  TAEASS502A Design and develop assessment tools, or

          3.  TAEASS502B Design and develop assessment tools.

     OR

    A diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.

    OR

    The equivalent of the above – refer to the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015.

    • Specialist Vocational Education and Training registration granted by the Teachers Registration Board (Tasmania) in accordance with the provisions of the Teachers Registration Act 2000.  This requirement only applies to teachers who will be working in schools delivering VET in Schools programs.

    Desirable Requirements

    • Experience in a vocational education training environment.
