The Role

Permanent, working up to 76 hours per fortnight

Location to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

The Education Manager is responsible for the key outcomes of a set of industry training products and a VET delivery team. Outcomes include meeting quality and compliance standards as determined by the national regulator, achieving TasTAFE’s Corporate Plan and Minister’s priorities, and delivering on TasTAFE’s 10-year strategic plan.

The Education Manager will ensure that all learners receive a high-quality VET experience that meets the learners needs and industry expectations for a job ready graduate.

The Education Manager will work with the delivery team to schedule teaching and other related duties for the team of teachers and other staff. They will also timetable tasks in a fair and reasonable manner. The Education Manager will have delegated responsibility and accountability for education, human, physical and financial aspects for their team as allocated and in accordance with TasTAFE (and Government where applicable) parameters. They will be held accountable for the exercising of these delegations.

An existing TasTAFE employee employed under a copied state instrument, or an employee who has been employed at TasTAFE in the past three months, if successful, would be appointed at the relevant classification and salary in the copied state instrument.

About You

These are the expected capabilities required to undertake the role successfully:

  • Experience in leading and managing staff and meeting learner expectations in a highly complex and compliance driven organisation.

  • Demonstrated experience in a VET environment that adheres to standards and a strong commitment to excellence and innovation in delivery practice and learner experience.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the vocational area/s and the ability to acquire sufficient and relevant current knowledge of those industries’ needs.

  • Proven ability to lead consultative and participative decision-making both within and outside the organisation, that informs and evaluates the effectiveness, quality and relevance of VET practice, training products and services.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply contemporary management practices, principals of sustainable business practices, promoting the wellbeing of organisational culture and adherence to high standards in workplace health and safety conditions and practices.

    Requirements

    Essential

    • Current Registration to work with vulnerable people in Tasmania. 

    Desirable

    • Industry experience in one of the industry areas advertised or VET experience which may be evidenced by a current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
    • A tertiary qualification in educational leadership or business management
    • A proven record of leadership in a large, complex tertiary education organisation.
    • A proven record of leadership/management in a large automotive workplace or dealership employing apprentices.     

    Evidence of meeting the following requirements for the role will need to be provided prior to starting:

    • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People
