The Role

Permanent, working up to 76 hours per fortnight 

The Consultant WHS works within the WHS team to provide WHS operational and administrative support for the Team.  This role supports the team to ensure a safe work environment and safe systems of work are provided for employees, students and visitors attending TasTAFE.

The Consultant WHS role takes direction from the WHS Manager and assists with development, implementation, review, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all components of the TasTAFE work health and safety and workers compensation claims and injury management systems.

An existing TasTAFE employee employed under a copied state instrument, or an employee who has been employed at TasTAFE in the past three months, if successful, would be appointed at the relevant classification and salary in the copied state instrument.

About  You

Capabilities required to undertake the role successfully include: 

  • Well-developed knowledge, experience and understanding of the WHS legislative framework, the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988, codes of practice and standards; and the ability to provide accurate and timely advice to managers, employees, and other stakeholders.

  • Sound interpersonal skills including written and verbal communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills, together with the ability to work effectively and flexibly and contribute to an effective team environment.

  • Demonstrated initiative and adaptability, including the ability to plan, coordinate, problem solve, prioritise, and manage several concurrent tasks in a timely, effective, and efficient manner.

    Essential Requirements 

    Evidence of meeting the following requirements for the role will need to be provided prior to starting:

    • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People

    Desirable Requirements 

    • Relevant WHS qualifications (e.g., Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety, Investigate WHS Incidents equivalent to BSBWHS505A, WHS Auditor, Return to work Coordinator and Injury Management Coordinator.
